New South Wales win first tour game against Louisburg!

New South Wales have won their first game of their USA Tour against Louisburg College 55 - 46 over the weekend.

After arriving in Charlotte on December 2, the highly competitive team boasting metropolitan and regional players from the state, enjoyed their first practice session at Carolina Courts before heading to the Accelerate training centre of NBA MVP, Steph Curry.

Of course, the girls enjoyed some leisure time at Concord Mills, before tipping off their game schedule against Louisberg College.

Louisberg have had an 8 win, 1 loss record this season, so it was sure to be a tough opponent for the elite team comprising of athletes already being looked at by div 1 college programs next year.

Former Sydney Kings’ assistant coach and now high performance coach at the BNSW campus (Australian College of basketball) Robbie McKinlay said, his group have a strong work ethic, typical of the standards set by Brendan Joyce as head coach of the Opals national program and players at the Centre of Excellence.

“We thought we were going to be in trouble playing such a quality team in Louisburg”

“But we found something extra when it mattered, and ground out a well-deserved win”

The team are currently competing in the “Iron Mike” basketball tournament in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, which comprises women’s college and semi-professional players before travelling on to Sanford, Charlotte then onto their Texas schedule.
